Top 5 NFL defensive backs on new teams in 2017

Morris Claiborne

Originally published by HERO Sports:

Similar to Colin Kaepernick at the quarterback position, the most well-known defensive back in the 2017 NFL free-agency class is still unsigned as the preseason gets underway.

That DB would be Darrelle Revis, the future Hall of Fame cornerback whose swift drop-off from shutdown to sit-down last season compelled the New York Jets to release him following another failed attempt to make the playoffs. Although Revis is only 32 years old, the Super Bowl champion and seven-time Pro Bowler has reportedly received little interest on the free-agent market. And if he does find a team, he might be asked to move to safety to mask whatever loss of speed and cover skills he’s had. Continue reading

Pick Six: Players of the Week

Mike Adams

Mike Adams

Six secondary standouts from football’s week that was:

1. Mike Adams, SS, Colts (NFL) — The Colts kept their playoff hopes alive with a surprising 34-6 domination of the Vikings on the road on Sunday, after which the only debate was whether Indy’s offense or defense was the most impressive group on the field.

One compelling argument in the defense’s favor is that in the highly-anticipated return of Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson, who had been out since Week 2 with a knee injury, the Colts limited the former MVP to just 22 yards on six carries.

Adams contributed six tackles to that effort, and he forced and recovered a fumble by Peterson. Adams also had an interception. Continue reading

Richard Sherman first DB taken in Pro Bowl Draft

Richard Sherman

If you were to gather a group of NFL fans to talk about the Pro Bowl — difficult a task as that may be — you’ll find quite a few who believe the league should simply announce the rosters and scrap the idea of actually playing what has become the worst all-star game among the major American sports.

Pick Six: Players of the Week

Mike-Adams-1

Six secondary standouts from football’s week that was:

Mike Adams, SS, Colts (NFL) — In a league that places a premium on preparation, sometimes a defense is vulnerable when facing a backup or rookie quarterback, since there is little to no film to use to draw up a game plan. But the veteran Adams had no problem adapting to change in Indianapolis’ 41-17 win over the Titans on Sunday. He intercepted Tennessee backup Charlie Whitehurst (who was starting in place of injured Jake Locker) and got an INT off third-string rookie Zach Mettenberger.

Ishmael Adams, FS, UCLA (NCAA) — The junior safety left his footprints, and probably some scorched turf, all over the Bruins’ 62-27 win over Arizona State on Thursday. Adams returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown right before halftime, then returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score in the third quarter. He finished with 296 all-purpose yards and became the first FBS player since Pacman Jones in 2003 to score on an interception and a kickoff return on the road. Continue reading
